This is a beautiful solid French Sterling Silver grape scissors decorated with scrolls and garlands of tiny flowers in high relief. It is hallmarked ‘Minerve Head 1’ for 950 standard (highest title – purer than sterling) to both handles, Bigorne mark to the interior of one the handles and the lozenge with the silversmith’s mark ‘G & C’ inside a lozenge for Gabert & Conreau (Paris 1901 – 1906). The silverwork is in excellent antique condition; the blades have stains and are numbered ‘17’...see pictures please. It is displayed in a case which doesn’t fit exactly but it has been kept in it since ever, it has original velvet and pure silk lining with golden inscription ‘Barthe MONT-DE-MARSAN’, to the lid it has a hand written label which reads ‘Ciseaux à Raisin’ (Grape Scissors). The case measures 8” long, 3 3/8” wide and full 1 5/8” thick measures 2 1/8” by 2”; the scissors measure 5 5/8” long by 2 ¼” across to the handles, it weighs 55.7 grams. Total weight scissors with case 221.5 grams.
