T
hese antique French silver and vermeil or gold washed
moka
spoons have handles “
à
la
Russe
”, or in the Russian style. They feature a very original design, having exceptionally beautiful handles and rare monogrammed bowls. The handles are in the form of a quiver of arrows and are pierced with small openings. The bowls are exquisitely monogrammed with the interlaced initials “M” and “D”.
They bear the French “
Minerve
Deuxième
Titre
” hallmark, indicating at least 80% silver, the guarantee used in Paris since 1838. They also bear the “
Bigorne
”, a counter mark in the form of an insect, visible on the backs of the bowl, a further guarantee of the silver content instituted in 1818. These spoons are stamped with the maker’s mark of
François-
Auguste
Boyer-
Callot
, master silversmith located in the rue de Sainte-Croix-de-la-
Bretonnerie
in the Marais district of Paris beginning in 1865 during the Second Empire (reign of Napoleon III). The maker’s mark consists of the initials “B” and “C” surrounding the image of a chalice surmounted by a crown. These pieces are in very good condition, with the exception of faint scratches and signs of normal use due to their great age. Please refer to the detailed photos on this page. These elegant spoons will lend a true French atmosphere to your coffee table.
