hese exquisite silver and vermeil, or gold washed, coffee spoons are designed with a garland of roses surrounding a medallion, flowers, leaves and “
palmettes
”, or stylized palm branches. The pointed shape of the bowls is characteristic of French spoons in the 19th century and lends a very elegant form. Each piece bears two French hallmarks used in Paris between 1819 and 1838, the “
Poinçon
de
Titre
” consisting of a woman’s head in profile and indicating that silver is more than 800, and the “
Poinçon
de
moyenne
garantie
” consisting of a Greek tragic mask certifying that the pieces were officially verified. They also bear the maker’s mark consisting of the letters “J.H.” surrounding the image of a hand. These pieces are in very good condition with the exception of faint scratches, very slight signs of wear on the gold washing on the back of the bowls, and very slight blunting of the tips of the spoon bowls, all due to normal use as well as to their very great age. Please refer to the detailed photos on this page.
