Description

Up for bid is a fine French 950 silver asparagus serving tongs.  The piece is 10 3/4 inches long and weighs 287 grams.  Both blades are nicely pierced, and the arms have a classic reeded edge pattern.  The piece has a center spring hinge in the bend with good tension.  The piece is monogrammed with an entwined “CVG” under a crown at the bend; it may be for a noble family.  It is simply marked with a French 1

standard silver mark at each blade joint as shown.  There is no maker’s mark.
Condition on the server is good.  There are some faint lines across the blade backs, presumably from a rubber band or some other binding to hold the blades together in storage.  Otherwise there is just normal surface wear from use.  A fine French silver serving piece!
