Rare Bacchus ‘God of Wine’ French Sterling Silver & Guilloche Enamel Box
This is a very rare sterling silver and enamel box made in France late 19thC. It is decorated with translucent mauve green enamel over Guilloche background depicting ‘Bacchus’, Roman’s God of wine, surrounded by wreaths of leaves, fruits and flowers. The high quality metalwork is in excellent antique condition as well as the enamel panel and enamel garlands. The lateral panel is decorated with engraved wreaths of vines. Soft gilded exterior and great gold gilding ‘Vermeil’ to the interior in pristine condition and pull off lid. It is fully hallmarked ‘Minerva Head1’ (to the interior and lateral panel) and lozenge with silversmith’s mark. It measures almost 2 7/16” in diameter by 11/16” high, weighs 83.80 grams. It would make a perfect addition to any collection!
