    Unique French Engraved Gold Gilded ‘Vermeil’ Sterling Silver Box by Paul Fort
    We are offering this divine gold gilded sterling silver box made in France circa 1910. The central etched decoration of the lid depicts a gallant scene: a young couple in the garden of a manor house, elegantly dressed…nude cherub statue, balcony and musical instruments complete the decoration…It has slightly bombé lid; the engraving is signed ‘HW’. The central medallion is surrounded by laurel leaves and berries frieze and guilloche decoration with delicate dots to the lateral panels and bottom. The interior shows wonderful ‘Vermeil’, see pictures please. It is fully hallmarked to the lid and rim ‘Mercury Head 1’ for 950/1000 silver purity and lozenge with silversmith’s initials ‘P (star inside a circle) F’ for Paul Fort (1910/1919) The silverwork is in excellent antique condition as pictured but for a couple of scratches to the bottom, mentioned for accuracy. It measures 3 11/16” in diameter by 1 ¼” to its highest point, it weighs 103 grams or 3.64oz.
